Dear Sweet, Crazy, Intelligent Nieces.

Open Letter to My Nieces | by Vashti Co.

To the little girls who I am in awe of, who drive me crazy and make me smile all in the same day. Whose sass will go above and beyond any sort of measurement.

When I started this blog back in April of 2015, I wasn't sure where my focus was going to come from, where the passion was going to be driven toward, or who I was writing this for.  Then I remembered growing up as a little girl and all of the things that society, family, friends, colleagues, exes, and life has taught me.  I remembered sometimes feeling like I wasn't good enough, that I didn't have the right look, or that I would never amount to anything.  I even didn't like my name, I wanted to be called Sally or something. Bleh

And I don't want those thoughts to ever, ever run through your mind.  I want you to know that you are beautiful just the way you are [yes, just like the bruno mars song].  That regardless of society's standards you are perfect. And if any guy ever thinks to himself to tell you that you aren't worth your weight and more in gold, I will personally not be nice to him in a kick your butt kind of way.  I promise

I want you to know that you don't need make up, but if you want to wear it I am totally behind you.  Your beauty is not defined by a mirror, it is define by your soul.  You will always be more than what you believe you are.  You can and should always be exactly who you want to be, and be proud of that.

I need you to know that as hard as life may get sometimes, there is always something better past any struggle.   I do my best to be here for you any day or time.  I will always love you no matter what you do, or say.  I will always be here for you even if you are far away.

Please don't grow up too fast it isn't worth it.  Enjoy high school you will miss it when it is gone, go to college for the education and the experience, dance a lot [especially so I can video it].  Laugh until it hurts, find great friends to travel the world with, eat great food while your metabolism allows you.

And last but not least, I love you more than all of the stars in the universe. You little ladies mean more to me than you will ever know.
