Praising Hands, Traveling Shoes | Small Business Feature
| Meet Rebekah Burch |
Founder + CEO of Praising Hands, Traveling Shoes
A little about Rebekah she is a southern girl [yay!] born and raised in Baton Rouge, LA. She has a huge passion for God and Travel, her love for both has taken her out of the country 14 times to not only fulfill her love for travel but to translate and interpret the word of God. She is married to her wonderful husband of almost 2 years. She is a believer in dreams and hard work. She is a Spanish teacher by day and she runs her business and blog Praising Hands, Traveling Shoes by night. So technically she is something like a super hero.
Below you can get to know Rebekah and Praising Hands, Traveling Shoes a little more.
Why did you start your business?
I originally started Praising Hands, Traveling Shoes in 2013 as a way to blog about my travels and encourage people in their day to day lives. What was once started as a simple blog began to evolve into something that I never dreamed of. In 2014, 5 different women became blog contributors for PHTS and we wrote about everything under the umbrella of dreams, travel and Jesus.
After almost a year of having them on the team, I felt that PHTS was taking a different direction. In May 2015, our first product line, The Priceless Collection, A foreign coin necklace collection created with the purpose to bring the hope of Christ to victims of sec trafficking and show women around the world that they are valuable and priceless in the eyes of Christ, was released and we became a registered business in our home state of Louisiana.
We then began spreading the message about our necklaces. "Every night, women, and children are brought with coins and used for man's pleasure. Here at PHTS, we want to turn what Satan is using for man and use it to make an impact for Christ. We are taking these coins and turning them into necklaces in order to show women that they are priceless in the eyes of Christ." We have grown so much from the time that we were a little blog in the corner of the internet to where we are now today - a full organization on a mission: live to praise, love to travel, challenge others to dream and bring freedom to sex trafficking victims.
How did you come up with your business name? Is there a story behind it?
I love answering this question, because the name of this business is seeping with character. If you were to ask any of my friends what my two biggest passions are, they would answer "living a life of praise to God and traveling the world." With so many names rolling around in my head at the time of the blog release, I KNEW this was the right choice. I desire for my life to be a life "living to praise, loving to travel, "hence the name "Praising Hands, Traveling Shoes."
What has been your greatest success since opening your business?
I have counted many things in my business as successful - even the failures. Because, with anything that happens in this business, I have grown. I have seen what can be improved, adjusted and established to make this business all about serving the Creator, creating one-of-a-kind community and changing the world. Although many things have occurred in the past year, I would say that the greatest success we have seen has been in the last couple of months. We hit the shelves of our first local boutique, shot our first photo shoot for our Look book (to be released this month) and were interviewed to be in a local magazine. Not to mention, our greatest accomplishments occur every month when we are able to send off 50% of our profits to Freedom 418 in South East Asia, our partner working hand-in-hand with sex trafficking victims.
What experience should clients expect when working with you? Or is there anything you want clients to know about working with you.
I desire for every single man and woman that comes across PHTS to come away with a greater sense of what it means to LIVE a life that can praise, travel, dream AND change the world - and do it together. When I work with individuals, I want them to see that anything is possible, that they have a purpose in this life and that with passion, drive and love they can change the world (and with us, they can change the world - one necklace purchase at a time).
I want to send a special shout out to Rebekah for taking the time out of her busy schedule to work with me on this post. The story and belief behind phts, is one I fully support. I haven't made my purchase from her just yet but I hope to as soon as we are moved and settled in. The concept behind is something I hope that my blog readers can support as well.
